class=\"p2\"\u003eThis year the Red Dot (RD) boards replace the long-running Beast range. Traditionally the Beast wave boards were very easy boards to sail but that changed a bit last year with a much more radical, higher-rockered design with single concave forward of the back straps.This year’s RD boards have reverted to an ‘easier’ more traditional Mistral wave rocker line with a longish planing flat but kept the single concave hull shape, tempered by relatively high vee in the tail.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p4\"\u003eOn the Water:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p4\"\u003eThe board still has a basically ‘trad’ feel to it, feeling quite long and despite the single concave the relatively narrow tail, tail vee and large fin give plenty of grip for easy tracking and control. It planes averagely early and is one of the easier boards to get planing due to the easy tracking and low pitch that isn’t very demanding of technical input. The abiding characteristic of the RD is its ease of sailing. It’s very smooth when blasting, feels reliable and dependable in very difficult conditions and always allows you to either keep out of trouble or else pull jumps and turns to order.Whilst neither aspirationally slashy or nippy it is nevertheless pleasingly loose yet very predictable and controlled on a wave, allowing involving frontside riding even in smallish onshore conditions. Although probably best in slightly bigger, faster conditions it is still very suitable for UK waves.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p4\"\u003eFittings:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p4\"\u003eThe relatively large 24cm G10 fin is of high quality and seems to suit the board well, and the straps are excellent. The pads, while much less hard than last year’s, are more about direct feel than ultimate comfort.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p4\"\u003ePopularity:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p4\"\u003eThe RD is much more a board that quietly grows on you rather than reaching out and grabbing you, and it was doing that most convincingly. It was in the top half of just about everybody’s list by the end and probably still rising.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p4\"\u003eOverall:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p4\"\u003eDependable and versatile rather than exciting, which is probably why we think that it’s such a relevant board for so many UK sailors. It is equally good whether you want decent wave riding, good jumping or just an easy board to sail and control in high winds. Better still, its riding style is neither noticeably biassed towards either small mushy waves or clean offshore faces – it can do it all. Our high modulus carbon used can also be found on high-end products like aircraft’s, Formula One cars or our Platinum SLS masts, booms and extensions. \u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eInnegra is a high modulus Propylene with unbeatable tensile and ding resistance. It offers a similar tensile strength to Kevlar, but is significantly stiffer. In addition, Innegra is the best composite fibre to prevent dents.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eWe use our exclusive high performance S_GLASS+ with an extra high silica content which offers much higher tensile strength as well as about 10-20% greater stiffness.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e    And finally we are using our exclusive DUOTONE SENTEX resin impregnated with silicon nano-spheres which helps us to reduce the weight even further without sacrificing durability. \u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eInstead of using a similar layup on all boards we use a DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC FLEX CONSTRUCTION for all our D\/LAB boards since demands on the different disciplines (wave, freestyle, freeride, racing) and conditions vary quite a lot.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eRacing boards are made to offer maximum performance (instant acceleration and V-max). Therefore these boards need be as stiff as possible. To achieve this no compromise stiffness we use a super high carbon content on all FALCON D\/LAB layups.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eOn wave boards though a certain „give“ is essential since these boards are very short and might become too stiff thus uncontrollable using a full carbon layup. Therefore the GRIP D\/LAB boards come with a higher Innegra and S_GLASS+ content. These high-tech composites have a much higher tensile strength avoiding breakages after high landings. To still achieve an outstanding \"spring-back\" characteristics which makes the board more reactive and has a tremendous effect on the acceleration we use unidirectional Carbon reinforcements in longitudinal direction. \u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eLast but not least even every single board size has an individual layup. This makes our wave boards as stable and energy-saving as a 5 liter bigger board while drifting\/floating and going over white water. \u003cbr\u003e    Most importantly the additional width leads to an increased outline curve. This improves the maneuverability which makes the board turn as radical as a 5 liter smaller board. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe result is an unbeatable broad range of use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e3-STAGE ROCKER\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUnlike the usual continuous rocker curve, our entire shape concept is based on a segmented rocker line. This accounts for the fact that the top- and bottom turn are two entirely different maneuvers. While you initiate the bottom turn more over your front foot (depending on the size of the wave) the top turn is only sailed over the back foot. This change in posture is the biggest challenge, especially when learning to wave ride - which becomes much easier with our 3-STAGE ROCKER.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e    The straight rocker section in-between the front- and back straps creates a super stable sailing stance\/platform so that you’re in perfect sync with your board going out or on the wave when switching between bottom- and top turn.\u003cbr\u003e    The nose rocker starts just in front of the front straps which helps to engage the front part of the rail when leaning forward on the bottom turn.\u003cbr\u003e    KICKSTARTER TAIL: The tail rocker behind the back strap remains very moderate until the last 4-5cm from the tail where it transforms into a progressive tail-kick. This tail-kick generates a perfect water release and in combination with the flat rocker line results in a kickstarter-like acceleration as soon as you push a bit with your back-foot. Plus the tail-kick obviously allows for super tight top turns when snapping back the board with your back-foot.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSYNCED CURVES CONCEPT (rocker\u0026gt;\u0026lt;outline\u0026gt;\u0026lt;rail)\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOutline, rocker and rail shape are the 3 key elements that determine how a board feels and performs. In every rocker- and outline there are spots with more or less curvature. The same applies to the degree of rail curvature which changes considerably. To prevent the 3 curves from working \"against\" each other, the highest priority is to synchronize these curves.
